March Tips

this month you should...

• Scalp the lawn.
• The average date for the last frost in the DFW Metroplex is March 21st.
• Plant cool season and perennial flowers.
• Re-mulch or re-compost, at least 2”-3” deep.
• Place orders for caladium bulbs.
• Add new landscaping.
• Cut back overgrown shrubs, except azaleas and hawthorns.
• Fertilize trees, shrubs, groundcover and lawn (continue lawn fertilizer every 5-6 weeks).
• Apply super-phosphate on azaleas, hydrangeas, and crape myrtles in early March.
• Sprinklers should be checked and set to water 1-2 times per week.  The rain/freeze sensor should be checked and set to 1/4" rainfall.
